Hike to Frost Mtn. Fire Tower

  • dragon brook rd Ripton, VT 05766 (map)

Join us for a community hike to explore the historic site of the old fire tower. This event offers an opportunity to connect with nature while learning about the significance of the fire tower and its role in our local history.

Date: Saturday, June 21, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM
Meeting Location: Ripton Town Office

A large fire tower was constructed 85 years ago. If you would like to join, please rendezvous at Ripton Town Office at 10:00 AM where we will organize and carpool to the RFM access trail. The 3-mile roundtrip trail follows the original jeep access road, which is mostly wide with a steady moderate incline. The wooden structure was constructed in 1941 as the only live-in fire tower in Vermont. It operated for nine years until it was destroyed by the devastating hurricane of November 25, 1950. While the tower is no longer standing, its concrete anchor pads and other artifacts are still in place. The hike should take a little more than an hour to complete. There is a functional privy at the summit but bring your own TP. Bug and tick repellent is highly recommended.
